ATHENS IN A DAY

Updated: Feb 7, 2019

Spending one day in Athens was jam-packed! Here's my take on how to see the top tourist destinations in one of the world's oldest cities. I chose the "Sights of Athens" tour bus for transportation through the city, and highly recommend it. It's an affordable and effective way to see the best spots in Athens.

First stop: Acropolis

I never expected to see so many tourists! I went in August, which is when most tourists go to Athens. The Acropolis is considered the number one tourist destination in Athens. If you love Greek mythology, the Acropolis is a must-see spot. Plus, it has one of the best views of the city since it's up on a hill.

Warning: the rocks are extremely slippery, so wear some sturdy shoes.

Odeon of Herodes Atticus (at the Acropolis)

Temple of Olympian Zeus

It costs €20 to enter, but you can easily see the remains of the Temple from across the fence. Unlike the Acropolis, the Temple was not as crowded by tourists. If you want to take a picture here, it will definitely be easier.

Hadrian's Arch

Hadrian's Arch is right next to the Temple of Zeus. It divides the old and new parts of Athens. This was also a gate into the city. So, when people walk through the gate, the first thing they see is the Acropolis.

I bought this bracelet from a street vendor for 4 Euros! It might be my favorite souvenir from the whole trip.

What I wore:

Dress: Choies

One of my favorite bloggers (@sincerelyjules) wore this dress when she went to Mexico. I found it on Choies.com for a more reasonable price. I decided to pair it with a belt because it was pretty loose.

Handbag: Rebecca Minkoff

Shoes: Tory Burch

Panathenaic Stadium

The Panathenaic Stadium is the first modern Olympic stadium. It was also the last spot we visited in Athens.

We ended the day with a beautiful sunset from the cruise ship.
